Design Draftsman (Commercial Refrigeration)

Continuously improve products and processes and lead the development of new products. Identify and lead value engineering projects. Assist internal customers with continuous improvement and value engineering projects. Assist Production Team with technical information. Promote the use of common parts among various product classes and minimise complexity. Promote design for manufacture. Control release of revision-controlled production drawings.  Responsibilities: Product Design:Lead new product design projectsDevelop detailed 3D product designs using CAD systemsProvide Engineering and Production with technical data and detailed drawingsDesign for manufactureGeneral Duties:Generate part modelsGenerate assembliesGenerate flat patterns in AutoCAD for CAM purposesGenerate bending drawingsGenerate assembly drawings and instructionsCreate bills of materials (BOM)Source cost efficient components and materialsRequisition special bought out components that are not in stockAssist with illustrations and renderings for marketing and instructional materialGenerate part numbers for standard componentsOrder sheet metal parts from Glass ShopDevelop wiring diagrams for approval by EngineeringContinuous improvement on product range:Minimise the number of part numbers by promoting the use of common parts and modularityDesigning new optimized versions of products in the existing product portfolioResearch and Development of new products to be added to the product rangeCreate general arrangement drawings for the factory and customersAssist in optimisation of product designs in existing product portfolioReduce cost of manufacture through value engineering projectsProcess Continuous Improvement Projects:Identify process improvement projectsImplement process improvements and lead continuous improvement processesDocument and standardise processesReduce the skill required for assembly through designConfiguration Management:Standardise processes – Create and issue work instructions and engineering instructionsStandardise designs – Develop and update design manualLead engineering change procedures  Requirements: 3D Drafting tertiary qualificationProficiency in SolidWorks with Autodesk Inventor experienceHands-on approachGood communication skillsMicrosoft OfficeExperience in a manufacturing environment
