Call for Freelance Language Practitioners/Linguists (independent contractor) We are compiling a database of language practitioners and linguists proficient in the South African official languages listed below for future projects.
We are seeking talented Copy Editors, Proofreaders, and Translators to review and refine academic texts, enhancing clarity, consistency, and overall quality.
The role involves correcting grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors, checking for factual accuracy, verifying in-text citations and reference lists, and ensuring adherence to specific style guides.
Freelance Responsibilities Include: Correcting grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
Ensuring consistency in style, tone, and formatting across the text.
Verifying facts, figures, and references for accuracy.
Enhancing sentence structure, word choice, and flow.
Ensuring adherence to style guides such as APA, MLA, or Chicago.
Collaborating with authors to address ambiguities or inconsistencies.
Types of Academic Manuscripts: Collected Works (approximately 110,000 words) Monographs (approximately 110,000 words) Journal Articles (approximately 8,000 words) Types of Copy Editing Services Needed: Light Copy Editing: Focuses on correcting basic grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.
Medium Copy Editing: Includes light editing tasks while improving sentence structure, word choice, and text flow.
Proofreading: The final review before publication, focusing on catching any remaining errors.
Translation: From English to any other South African Official Language .
Languages: Sesotho, Sesotho sa Leboa, Setswana, Xitsonga, isiZulu, isiXhosa, isiNdebele, siSwati and Tshivenda.
Requirements: Relevant qualifications in Linguistics, Language Studies, or related fields.
Proven experience in Copy Editing, Proofreading, and Translation.
Proficiency in one or more of the official South African languages.
