An opportunity has become available at our Head Office (Cape Town) within Cape Union Mart for a Buyer for the Consumer Electronics Department.Duties and Responsibilities:Sourcing, development and updating of OEM products across power, lighting, wearables, and other electronic categoriesRange development and relationship management with external global brandsOversees all buying administration in the departmentWorks closely with the planner on OTB controlPrepare and present range reviews to managementEnsuring images available for E-commerceResponsible for all marketing briefs and must ensure suitable/relevant products are presentedKeeping abreast of local and global trends in the industryLiaise with suppliers and ensure on-time launches according to internal critical paths and market launches of new branded productsProvide a good range of merchandise that meets our quality standards, consumer needs and product trendsEnsure pricing of the products are competitive (OEM), in line with market (external brands) and within GP targets and the pricing policy.Ensure new and replenishment products are delivered timeously for the season.Report on major competitors once per season. Ensures that company benefits from cost saving strategies.Selecting and sourcing reliable suppliersNegotiating rebate schemes with external suppliers, and ensuring these are paid out timeously when conditions are metMinimise risk through monitoring high risk suppliers (late deliveries, reliability, quality) - Maintaining and improving supplier relationships and ensuring that suppliers understand and adhere to our terms.Follow up on orders to ensure on-time deliveryWorking with the relevant authorities to ensure products meet South African consumer standards and all import paperwork is up to dateEnsure proper testing of OEM products before going to marketUndertaking store visits and interacting with managers, staff and customers to gauge stores/customers' needs/wantsCo-ordination of training of store staff to ensure sell-throughKeeping up to date on stock levels and customer profilesRequirements: Grade 12 and diploma/degree in retail or relevant industryAt least two years' work experience as a fully-fledged retail buyerWorking with OEM product (product development)Working with international brands (merchandise and marketing departments)Microsoft office package (PPT, EXCEL, Word and Outlook)Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)Understanding of the product life cycle of both OEM and external brandsRelevant Industry/Product knowledge of Consumer ElectronicsCommercial acumen and ability to calculate margins, price targets and other key buying metrics on the flyAbility to travel locally and overseasJob Related Behavioural Competencies.Analytical thinking and problem solvingPassion for electronics, gadgets, and identifying new and growing categoriesTime Management and ability to meet deadlines and overcome challengesAbility to clearly and concisely articulate problems and explain exactly how to reproduce themBeing proactive and taking initiative in your role, especially for newAbility to effectively work in a team environment while being self-directed and highly motivated.Team playerAbility to build strong relationshipsVerbal and written communication skillsPlease note: The Cape Union Mart Group is committed to transformation.
