Job Purpose The successful candidate will be appointed as a rotational HOD in line with the rotational HOD guideline for a five-year term. HOD responsibility includes leading and managing the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures, specifically but not limited to:
Academic leadership and project managementResearch managementHR and staff managementFinancial managementStudent managementThe candidate should be able to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and be active in research, successfully supervising undergraduate final year research projects and postgraduate students.
Minimum Requirements: Associate Professor Doctoral qualification in Law / Doctor of Commerce / Doctor of Business Administration or equivalent doctoral qualificationUnderpinning Masters and Bachelor's qualification in one or more of the sub-fields of Paralegal Studies and related fields of lawAt least six (6) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher EducationAlready at Senior Lecturer level with at least three (3) years' proven academic managerial experienceTrack record in academic leadership, research output, and postgraduate supervisionRecommended: Associate Professor NRF RatingSuccessful supervision of Masters' and Doctoral studentsPrevious experience in a similar position or at an equivalent or higher levelPreference for candidates with at least 4 years' experience in a department/programme coordinating or relevant portfolio role within a law/paralegal departmentMinimum Requirements: Senior Lecturer Doctoral qualification in Law / Doctor of Commerce / Doctor of Business Administration or equivalent doctoral qualificationUnderpinning Masters and Bachelor's qualification in one or more of the sub-fields of Paralegal Studies and related fields of lawAt least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher EducationExperience in curriculum developmentTrack record in academic leadership, research output, and postgraduate supervisionMinimum Requirements: Head of Department Doctoral qualification in Law / Doctor of Commerce / Doctor of Business Administration or equivalent doctoral qualificationUnderpinning Masters and Bachelor's qualification in one or more of the sub-fields of Paralegal Studies and related fields of lawAt least 5 years' teaching experience in a higher education, with at least three (3) years at the Senior Lecturer level involving managerial responsibilityTrack record in academic leadership, research output, and postgraduate supervisionKey Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer Learning and TeachingSupervise postgraduate studentsProvide academic leadership in the departmentParticipate in curriculum developmentConduct student assessmentsResearch and research capacity buildingParticipate in quality assuranceProvide support for Work-integrated learning and monitoringDevelop and maintain industry linkagesRisk management and related activitiesCompliance reportingHead of Department Academic leader of the departmentA representative of the department to the rest of the university communityA representative of the university leadership in the department's representative of the university to external bodiesAdditional Applicants must meet the Ad Hominem Promotions criteria at the relevant level of each one of the above as spelled out in the Ad Hominem Promotions policy (Academic level to be determined through the application of institutional ad hominem criteria).
